Client Server, GSTP protocol
* GoodSync Server: installed together with GoodSync, GoodSync client can connect to it and sync files.
* GSTP: GoodSync File Transfer Protocol, used to sync files between GoodSync client and server.
* GSTP comes in plain and encrypted form, encryption is done using SSL.
* GSTP can transfer only portion of the file that has changed, which means
* Big speed up in backup or sync of big files that have few changes: databases, music, videio.
* GSTP can read locked files remotely and send only changed portion to the client.
* GSTP can sync ACL security attributes with remote servers.
* GS Server runs as a service, so it runs even when all Windows users are logged off.
* GS Server runs in elevated mode, so it can perform all backup tasks without UAC prompt, so
* GS ver 9 does not ask for elevation top copy locked files, it can backup Access Denied files.
* Compute MD5 checksum of a file: GS client can verify all backups quickly, no sending the entire file.
* GS Client and Server work both on Windows and Mac, with full interoperability.
* GoodSync client and server are available on UNIX, in command line form.
* GS server can export any file system available on the remote end (Win Share or WinMo Phone).
* GSTP is much faster than SMB (Windows shares) and AFP (Apple file protocol).
GoodSync Connect, Mediation Server
* GoodSync client can locate GoodSync server by its IP address or name.
* In addition to that, GoodSync server can be addressed via Mediation Server, so that GoodSync client can find server that has no static IP address. Similar to dynamic DNS, only works faster.
* URL format is gstp://server.company.com or gstps://server.company.com for direct IP adressing, it is gstp ://ComputerId.UserId.goodsync for addressing via Mediation Server.
* GoodSync Server creates an access tunnel in your router or NAT device using UPNP.
* GoodSync can list all servers belonging to an authenticated user.
* Fast local discovery for GoodSync servers sitting on local network.
* All operations are performed only for authenticated users, we use digest auth on servers.
GoodSync Explorer
* GoodSync Explorer is a companion application to GoodSync.
* It navigates and explores any file system that GoodSync can handle: Windows, Mac, SMB, FTP, AFP, SFTP, S3, Windows Mobile.
* Explorer has all standard features of Windows Explorer or fully featured FTP client.
* Display file properties and attributes.
* Download/upload one file, several files or folder with all its contents.
* Create new folder, rename and delete files and folders.
* Show list of GSTP servers for one authenticated user. |
